Greenfield on Ice!

Greenfield Home & School's first-ever skate night one recent Saturday couldn't have been more perfectly timed. Just days after the closing ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics were held, students, parents, guardians and friends strapped on their blades to skate, jump and spin at South Philadelphia's storied Rizzo Rink. Students were excited to see their teachers take to the ice, as Ms. Demko (6,7,8  Social Studies), Mr. Rubinstein (Technology), and Officer Alexander (Security) joined in with their families. The evening proved so successful that event organizer Donato Pignetti (parent of Greenfield 6th graders Gianni, Donato, and Max) was overheard saying that families can look forward to more of the same next winter. Thanks again to the Pignetti family, and to all those who joined in the chilly fun. As kindergartner Natalie Kim said upon leaving the rink, "I loved skating with my friends! Can we do it again tomorrow, Mom?"

Martin Luther King Day of Service at Greenfield - a big Thank You!

DANNLISA

More than 60 adult volunteers and 40 young children filled the halls of Greenfield this MLK Day to help make improvements in the school that the students and staff at Greenfield will appreciate for years to come. Special thanks also go to Greenfield faculty and staff in attendance on their day off: Mr. Lazar, Officer Alexander, Ms. Keller, Ms. McCarty, Ms. Gossfield, Ms. Van Dyke, Ms. Luterman and Mr. Ron.

Our accomplishments included:

  • Making bright and fresh new spaces for Mrs. Kayson and Ms. Harrington
  • Filling two dumpsters with outdated materials from an overfilled storage room in the school and debris from the play yard
  • Repairing chairs for a kindergarten class
  • Hanging whiteboards in several classrooms
  • Hanging art in the vestibule
  • Painting the music room and adjacent hallways, painting lockers
  • Moving furniture
  • Repairing the curtain for the stage in the auditorium
  • As well as the elbow grease efforts of many to scrub, shine and polish many surfaces throughout the building.

The MLK Team attended a Dr King memorial service that not only honored his legacy but challenged us to continue it for future generations at Greenfield. Following that, the Team celebrated with a much needed lunch! Fueled with the excitement of community spirit and the desire to make a difference, the MLK Day of service team was a great success!

Many thanks to all the amazing volunteers from the organizers, Lisa and Dave Ciervo, who appreciate the hard work that made their job of coordinating the day a pleasure! Smile
