Academic Tips for Parents

by the Home & School Academic Life team*

Tip_of_the_month

May 2011 Academic Tip: Are you in a book club?  Your children can be too!

One fantastic way to focus on both literacy and your community is to start a book club.  It's very simple: pick a book, find some friends, and get together to discuss the book.  Starting or participating in a book club with your child will not only encourage them to read, but also creates an opportunity for more quality time with your child and their peers.

You can start one on your own or you can attend Greenfield's 1st Annual Book Club Night June 7th from 5-6:30pm - more details will be sent home soon.

In the meantime, try this: read the next book your child reads and after you are both done have a conversation about it - ask them what they liked most about the book or what they thought about a particular section of the book.
