November is INDOOR Recess fun month! Indoor recess games needed!
The Parents-in-the-Playground (PIP) program is asking for concerned parents to consider donating games for our children to use during indoor recess now that the colder season is upon us.
Click here for a list of games and activities that PIP are requesting families bring or sponsor (by donating funds) for the indoor recess. These were selected for their ideal characteristics in that they are fun, intellectually stimulating, have relatively few parts to lose or break, and can be played in 15 or minutes or so while sitting in the auditorium. Please check out the list and sign up!
If your family can make a donation of a game, please bring it to school on any morning and hand it to noon time aid Glory S. If you have a cash donation towards any of the larger ticket items, please make a check payable to Greenfield home and school assn, noting the donation is for "indoor recess" in the memo and place it in the H&S mailbox in the office.
If you have ideas for appropriate activities, please add them to the list. Also, if you have a gently used game that you think would also fit the bill, we would accept that as well!
Thank you!

As a Parent or Guardian of a child at Greenfield Elementary, you know that one of the most important things we can expect for our children is an environment that encourages their growth, while ensuring their safety. For this reason, several parents have initiated, as part of the Home and School Association, a safety committee that will be tasked with facilitating several efforts to improve the climate at Greenfield.
One of the times where Greenfield needs parental support more than any other is to assist the staff by being additional eyes and ears during the lunch and recess times of the day. As you know, lunch and recess times are important breaks for our children's homeroom teachers and recess is a well deserved time for our children to play. Several conditions make this a high-need time in the day for additional support:
• There are only six aides to supervise eight classes
• There are five publicly accessible entrances to the playground
• The playground is a large, full-block space which includes hard-to-see corners
Our committee received great appreciation last year from both faculty and children. The combination of some new play equipment and some more adults in the playground have significantly improved the quality of both the children‘s enjoyment of recess and their social skills in the playground!
We are excited to welcome volunteers and committee members for assistance in several areas. Right now, the area of highest priority where our kids really need the most attention are recess volunteers. We have set up a simple system to coordinate volunteers and believe we can make a big impact with a small time commitment. If you have a playful spirit, and are willing to step in a make sure the kids are interacting in a healthy way then OUR KIDS NEED YOU TO GET INVOLVED!
All we ask is an hour of your time, once a month!
We are currently working on the guidelines and framework for this program, but please do contact us if you are interested in helping out for 1 hour a month. Assistance with Security Clearances and orientation will be provided.
